For the wide audience who adores television, print, and product-designing media darling and star decorator Thom Filicia's new American style, and for anyone who has ever dreamed of creating her own retreat, this is both a deeply felt story of true house love and a decorating book brimming with beauty.
Thom Filicia wasn't looking for another escape from his busy city life. But when visiting New York's Finger Lakes, a place he loved as a child, he fell madly in love with a fixer-upper. Two years and one careful, respectful, and impassioned renovation later, it has become the house of his dreams--one that profoundly speaks to his happy memories of lazy days spent on the lake or in the town of Skaneateles.
With more than 300 stunning photographs, "American Beauty "is the story of this house, and an inspiration resource that imparts Thom's extensive wisdom on creating rooms that feel modern yet meaningful and classic.
Before being catapulted into the national spotlight, Thom established himself as a major player in the design industry through his day-to-day work. After earning his B.A. in design from the prestigious School of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, he joined Parish-Hadley, one of the country's most distinguished interior design firms. He then worked for renowned designer Jeffrey Bilhuber before founding Thom Filicia, Inc., in 1998. He was named one of "House & Garden"'s Top 50 Tastemakers, one of "House Beautiful"'s Top 100 American Designers, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Art Direction for his work on "Queer Eye". Thom's far-ranging commissions have included everything from designing the tents for the Olympus Fashion Week, to the W Hotels in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Atlanta, and to the United States VIP Suite at the World's Fair in Aichi, Japan.
