About the Author
Hiner Saleem, an internationally acclaimed filmmaker, was born in 1964 in Iraqi Kurdistan. After fleeing Iraq in the late 1970s, he lived in Syria, Florence, and then Paris, where he began making movies. His feature films include "Vodka Lemon".

Catherine Temerson is the author and translator of over a dozen books. Her most recent translations include Amin Maalouf's Origins, Elie Wiesel's A Mad Desire to Dance, Florence Noiville's Isaac B. Singer: A Life and Hiner Saleem's My Father's Rifle: A Childhood in Kurdistan.
