My Very Own Big Spanish Dictionary / Mi gran diccionario de espanol is a colorful and engaging bilingual English/Spanish dictionary that will help young children develop an interest in letters, sounds, reading, and writing. The pages contain a variety of everyday English words in alphabetical order with their Spanish language equivalents and are illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski’s captivating and easy-to-identify drawings. A useful index alphabetized in Spanish directs the child to the corresponding English word in the text and reinforces meaning with a miniature version of the illustration found at the dictionary entry. The 165 words have been selected by the editors of the American Heritage® Dictionaries for their familiarity and age-appropriateness. Special sections on numbers, colors, and shapes introduce children to these basic concepts in English and Spanish. The book also features engaging language activities that make learning fun.
The Editors of the American Heritage Dictionaries and of other reference titles published by Houghton Mifflin Company are trained lexicographers with a varied array of interests and expertise.
