A favorite psalm becomes wonderfully accessible to children in this comforting new book from a Caldecott Honor artist and the editor of IN EVERY TINY GRAIN OF SAND.
When I am lonely you are near,
When I am angry, you stay here.
High in heaven bright, you greet me,
Down in darkness, too, you meet me.
The bright morning light greets four children as they step into a day of joyful activity: climbing a tree, swimming through clear water, toasting marshmallows at twilight. And when they feel lost or lonely, friends are never very far away.
In this gentle adaptation of Psalm 139, Reeve Lindbergh and Holly Meade create a prayer of abiding love and hope - and a sun-dappled world where comfort is around every corner, and no one is truly alone.
Reeve Lindbergh, the daughter of aviator Charles Lindbergh and poet Anne Morrow Lindbergh, is the editor of numerous books for children, including IN EVERY TINY GRAIN OF SAND, and the author of THE CIRCLE OF DAYS, as well as several books for adult readers. She says of ON MORNING WINGS, "Psalm 139 was one of my parents' favorites, and as I read it over and over again I realized that it conveys the sense that we’re all held in the embrace of God and the universe. I wanted to emphasize the universality of the spirit in this book."
Holly Meade is the author and illustrator of A PLACE TO SLEEP, and has illustrated many acclaimed books for children, including HUSH! A THAI LULLABY by Minfong Ho, which was a Caldecott Honor Book. In order to capture the spirit of this adaptation of Psalm 139, Holly Meade drew on the sense of wonder she felt as a child when in the presence of something bigger and grander than herself.
