About the Author
Rebecca Caudill (1899-85) was the author of more than twenty books for children, including "The Best-Loved Doll "and "A Certain Small Shepherd," Ms. Caudill's contributions to children's literature continue to be honored each year with the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award.
Evaline Ness (1911-1986) illustrated more than thirty books for young readers and also wrote many of her own. In addition to winning the Caldecott Honor for "A Pocketful of Cricket," she received the Caldecott Medal for "Sam, Bangs, and Moonshine," Like Rebecca Caudill, she has left a huge mark on the world of children's literature.
