In the euphoric months before and after the publication of "This Side of Paradise," F. Scott Fitzgerald, the flapper's historian and poet laureate of the Jazz Age, wrote the ten stories that appear in this unique collection. Exploring characters and themes that would appear in his later works, such as "The Beautiful and Damned" and "The Great Gatsby," these early selections are among the very best of Fitzgerald's many short stories.
This Modern Library Paperback Classic includes notes, an appendix of nonfiction essays by Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and their contemporaries, and vintage magazine illustrations.

About the Author
Francis Scott (Key) Fitzgerald's (1896-1940) posthumous literary reputation has remained consistently strong despite many highs and lows throughout his brief life. His best-known novel, The Great Gatsby (1925) remains a critical favorite along with Tender is the Night (1934). Most of Fitzgerald's works are loosely based on his life, including his wife Zelda's insanity and his appreciation for personal indulgence and self-destructive excess.

Bryant Mangum is Professor of English at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to F. Scott Fitzgerald in Context, he is the editor of Modern Library's The Best Early Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald. He is also author of A Fortune Yet: Money in the Art of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Short Stories. His essays have appeared in Resources for American Literary Study, the F. Scott Fitzgerald Review, the Fitzgerald/Hemingway Annual, The Cambridge Companion to F. Scott Fitzgerald, New Essays on F. Scott Fitzgerald's Neglected Stories, and many other books and journals.

Roxana Robinson is the author of four previous novels, three collections of short stories, and the biography "Georgia O'Keeffe: A Life. "Her work has appeared in "The Atlantic", "The New Yorker", "Harper's Magazine", "The Washington Post", "The Wall Street Journal", "More", and "Vogue", among other publications.
