Shelley Fraser Mickle has written several novels, including Replacing Dad and The Queen of October, which was a New York Times Notable Book.

Publisher's Weekly wrote in its review of Replacing Dad, "Mickle's easy, forth-right style transforms a familiar tale into winning fiction." The New York Times said the book, which was made into a CBS television movie, had "sassy charm."

Now Mickle has written The Turning Hour, a touching novel about the critical issue of a teenager's attempted suicide. The story, told from two points of view (mother and daughter), reveals the difficulty of reconnecting with each other, and dredges up the family history and personal pain that led to the tragedy. The book is suitable for both adults and young adults.
