Lola and Fred prove that differences in character and appearance—or even species—do not have to get in the way of reaching a goal.
Lola & Fred is the first picture book of a series where a new character is introduced with each subsequent publication. This text-free book allows viewers to tell the story in their own words. Mr. Heuer was inspired to illustrate text-free to avoid the language barriers of Switzerland, his native country, which has four national languages. Originally published in Switzerland, Lola & Fred is being introduced to North America for the first time.
Born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1966, Christoph Heuer is an architect, cartoonist, and illustrator who currently resides in Zurich. In 1998 he started his own business called Pul Cartoons. His inspiration to create text-free children's books derived from his goal to avoid the language barriers of Switzerland having four national languages.
More than 150 writers from 40 events will gather in New York City for PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, April 28 – May 4, 2014.
For its 10th anniversary, the festival celebrates those who have dared to stand ‘on the edge,’ risking their careers, and sometimes their lives, to speak out for their art and beliefs. Join us for a wide range of events, including debates, one-on-one conversations, participatory workshops and performances in venues throughout the city. Use the code PEN14 (use PEN2014 for events at The Public Theater) and receive a 20 percent discount on most events. www.worldvoicesfestival.org
