About the Author
Thomas Hardy was born in 1840 in Higher Bockhampton (Upper Bockhampton in his day), a hamlet in the parish of Stinsford to the east of Dorchester in Dorset, England, where his father Thomas (1811-1892) worked as a stonemason and local builder.

Tom O'Brien is a native of County Waterford in Ireland and is a novelist and playwright. Earlier books include Confessions of a Corner Boy, Cassidy's Cross, Down Bottle Alley. Plays include Money From America, On Raglan Road and Cricklewood Cowboys. Formerly a construction worker, he is now a full-time writer. He lives in Hastings, England
