This essential book explores the importance of understanding the range of values of a subject, from light to dark and all the variations in between, and demonstrates the drawing techniques that can be used to render realistic forms. The step-by-step projects help artists develop their skills through shading, contrasting elements, studying composition, drawing white objects, using lighting effects, and more.

He studied figure drawing and painting at the New York Studio School, National Academy of Design, and Art Students League in New York; portraiture and figure drawing with Vern Wilson of the Los Angeles Art Center; and watercolor painting with Liane Collot D'Herbois in Europe.
