Description
In "The Little Bookroom," Eleanor Farjeon mischievously tilts our workaday world to reveal its wonders and follies. Her selection of her favorite stories describes powerful--and sometimes exceedingly silly--monarchs, and commoners who are every bit their match; musicians and dancers who live for aft rather than earthly reward; and a goldfish who wishes to "marry the Moon, surpass the Sun, and possess the World.

About the Author
Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965) was a British author of children's stories and plays, poetry, biography, history and satire. Many of her works were illustrated by Edward Ardizzone. She lived much of her life among the literary and theatrical circles of London, and her friends included D H Lawrence, Walter de la Mare and Robert Frost. For several years she had a close friendship with the poet Edward Thomas and his wife. "Edward Thomas: The Last Four Years" is an account of their relationship. She won many literary awards and the prestigious Eleanor Farjeon Award for children's literature is presented annually in her memory by the Children's Book Circle.

Maurice Gorham (1902-1975) was an Irish journalist and broadcasting executive. In various capacities, he worked for the BBC from 1926 to 1947 when he resigned, returning to Ireland. There he resumed his broadcasting career in 1953 as the Director of Radio Eireann, a position he held until 1959. He collaborated with Edward Ardizzone on three books, The Local (reissued after the Second World War as Back to the Local "-" and now published by Faber Finds), Londoners and Showmen and Suckers"."

Rumer Godden is the author of many much-loved books for both children and adults. These include The Diddakoi (winner of the Whitbread award for children's books), A Kindle of Kittens, Four Dolls, and Great Grandfather's House. She lives in England.
