Bound Together is an all-volunteer run bookstore dedicated to promoting anarchist ideas and making available anarchist and other literature seldom found in most traditional bookstores.

The Catalyst Infoshop is a space dedicated to abolishing sexism, racism, and gender stereotypes, through the use of a decentralized and anti-oppression framework.

Wooden Shoe Books & Records is a 501c3 non-profit organization and collectively-run anarchist bookstore. We carry thousands of book titles as well as music, pamphlets, 'zines, t-shirts, buttons, patches and more. We frequently table at political events and punk rock shows. We have continued to sponsor our own events and have brought in such speakers as Howard Zinn in October, 1998 and Gary Webb, author of Dark Alliance:The CIA, The Contras, and The Crack Cocaine Explosion, in June, 1999.

We officially opened in our current location on November 15,1997 and is less than a block away from South Street...Philly's busiest commercial area. The original Wooden Shoe Books and Records was located in the basement of 112 South 20th Street in Philadelphia for nearly 21 years. Established in December, 1976, the Wooden Shoe began as a council communist bookstore. Its name was derived from the early period of the Industrial Revolution, when French workers who were forced to spend agonizingly long hours at work took to jamming their wooden shoes, or sabots (which is the root of the word "sabotage"), in the gears of machines to stop production.

Robin's Book Store is the oldest Independent Book Store in Philadelphia, opened by my grandfather in 1936. I have lived in Center City for over 60 years and have worked in the book business for over 40 of them. The joy of the book business is that you are working with language, ideas, and people. Have you read this author? Here is so & so's new book. Let me show you this poet I just "discovered." Precious commodities to be shared. And then there is politics! I believe in Democracy, I believe that people must have total access to all information. We are always fighting the Freedom To Read battle, from Tropic of Cancer in the 60's to Child Access laws in the 70's, to Salmon Rushdie in the 80's, to Jock Sturges in the 90's, to the Patriot Act today. We carry The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf. As Ralph Wiley said at an autographing here, "Nobody ever learned anything by not reading something."

We do individual author and group events, we do poetry and politics, we have a great African American section, and really good poetry, literature and children's sections, lots of psych and new age, and some of everything else. We have a second floor full of used books and magazines. We play blues, jazz, and classical music depending on my mood.

Laughing Horse is a worker-owned bookstore and infoshop established in 1986. Specializing in leftist literature of all kinds, they carry titles on radicalism, anarchist, anti-war, feminism, anti-racism, youth liberation, and much more. They also have a exhaustive selection of VHS and DVD radical themed films and documentaries, and they host frequent events ranging from author readings to punk shows.

A non-profit, all-volunteer, collectively-run anarchist bookstore. It's so action packed you can't describe it without using three hyphens!

In addition to an awesome collection of new, rare, and used radical titles, Blackrose has a lending library, freestore (basically a free thrift store), computers for public use, and free coffee!

We host lots of events, ranging from workshops and presentations to movies and author readings.
