‘Writer mama from Seattle tells all in this zine’

Seattle, Washington

Real Name: Corbin

Website: Reality Mom

Interests: independent books stores and publishers, zines

About Me:

Reality Mom the zine is in it's sixth year of publishing. It is sold in various bookstores in Seattle as well as Quimby's and Powell's. Reality Mom shares personal essays from parents and non parents, but we never tell you what to do. More likely, we will tell you how we screwed up. So, if you have a story to share, please send it to reality_mom@yahoo.com. As long as your essay is relatively short (1000 words) and either makes me laugh, cry, or think "hmmm" I will probably publish your work. Thanks for reading.

P.O. Box 214
Chelan, Washington 98816

Website: http://myspace.com/GonzoParenting

Gonzo Parenting is a fresh, funky zine for parents who live in the real world.

What defines Gonzo Parenting? Read on...

From Wikipedia:
"Gonzo journalism" is a style of journalism which is written subjectively, often including the reporter as part of the story via a first person narrative. The style tends to blend factual and fictional elements to emphasize an underlying message and engage the reader. The word Gonzo was first used in 1970 to describe an article by Hunter S. Thompson, who later popularized the style. The term has since been applied to other subjective artistic endeavors.

Gonzo journalism tends to favor style over accuracy and often uses personal experiences and emotions to provide context for the topic or event being covered. It disregards the 'polished' edited product favored by newspaper media and strives for the gritty factor. Use of quotes, sarcasm, humor, exaggeration, and even profanity is common. The use of Gonzo journalism portends that journalism can be truthful without striving for objectivity and is loosely equivalent to an editorial.

From the Gonzo Parent:
Gonzo Parenting looks for work in the tradition of gonzo journalism, written by and for parents who throw themselves into the act of parenting with enthusiasm and zeal... even if they have no clue what they are doing.

Gonzo Parenting is currently looking for content for their upcoming issue.

We are looking for essays and articles by parent-writers that are imperfect, honest, and hip. We don't take kindly to perfect parents (or those who think they are), religion-bashing or overtly political subjects.

Have a bone to pick with a deadbeat parent? Want to talk about how new legislation affects your family? Want to give real advice (not Dr. Spock's) on how to survive parenthood? Gonzo Parenting is looking for you! For more information, email gonzoparentingzine@yahoo.com.
