A store like a museum, where everything has a story! Unique hand-made items directly sourced from the artisans and antique markets of the world. Folk art, jewelry, furniture, bags, scarves and shawls, old tools, ritual objects, posters, paintings, carvings, tableware-- you never know what you will find! Look for the reading figures by carvers of La Union in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico-- sales benefit a library we sponsor in their village in southern Mexico.

Mingei is a 20th century Japanese word, coined by a philosopher concerned about industrialization and the loss of handicraft. "Min" is a root meaning people, and "gei", the same root as in geisha, means art. Mingei items are hand-made, and therefore imperfect. They are beautiful and functional, accessible and intended for everyday use. Interacting with such items is essential to the human spirit.
