Hidden Gem

My Parents have a Condo on the Island, which I am fortunate enough to get to use, and I love Paragraphs!!! This little store is such a jewel. I love the atmosphere and selection, books for myself and my kiddos!
Friendly and graceful service ensures many return visits from my family and I!

Paragraphs on Padre

Right there, there, smack dab in the middle of a very large island, sand bar, directly in the midst of a vacation heartland of sun, surf, and sand, lies an unexpected jewel. At first you might think it a mirage with its two green towers rising up as if from a fairy tale, but then you realize, it is a bookstore. An oasis of sanity and literacy where none stood before.

Then the surprise, when you enter the place is neat, clean, and immaculate. Well stocked without piles of dusty unsold and unsellable books on the floor and overflowing stacks allowing you not enough room to make your way down an aisle. There are comfortable wing back chairs to sit in while you peruse your latest find. The books are widely varied and varied not just by topic but by how deep you would like to get while on vacation. From time to time they serve tea or coffee and sometimes, just sometimes, when the magic Grif is there, you have cookies. If per chance you like dogs, you will love the two little, gentle Shih tzus who guard the place as if they were monstrous griffins. They are adorable and even if you don't like dogs you will soon fall in love with their playful personalities.

Alas, I did not forget you, Joni, for Joni is the mainstay of the entire place. She is not just a bookstore owner, but a bibliophile who I swear has read every book in the place. A great help and a lively conversationalist, Joni does not concentrate on the store alone but has brought a brilliant new facet to the South Padre Island community. Indeed this is a must see attraction on South Padre Island; and even if you don't want to read while on vacation, you will want to take away a book, perhaps on building sand castles.

Five Stars with class!
