On the corner of Juniper and 30th some feel the magnetic pull. Others don’t. Those people sucked into her living room become part of a diverse family, a hodge-podge group proud to call Rebecca’s Coffee House home. Yes, the smell of scones baking in the oven travels out the doors. Freshly ground, brewing coffee is rich and pungent in the surrounding air. But so much more pulls family members through the doors. Seated on a comfy couch, feel the warmth radiating off the sunny, yellow walls and the colorful artwork that makes this space so bright. Change is welcome here, from a fluctuating crowd of familiar faces and first time visitors, to daily featured coffees and Rebecca’s homemade scones bursting with the freshest local ingredients… visit again and again.
Rebecca’s: A Coffee House
Rebecca Zearing looks around the large open room, filled with art, music, poetry and people, and says softly, in some awe at what she has wrought, “Sometimes I forget it’s mine.” Her customers don’t, though; they return repeatedly to the sunny yellow walls of her coffeehouse/ cafe for sustenance with soul. Besides the homemade muffins, soups and quiches turned out in the small kitchen, Rebecca’s offers an acoustic jam session on Thursdays, jazz on Fridays and an open mic poetry reading twice a month. Here’s where you can get your five minutes of fame—or at least your time in front of an audience, some there for the coffee or food, some for the experience. Local artists’ works are offered for sale on several walls. A mural behind the small stage resembles the South Park surroundings, except the street depicted is eerily empty. And even in the wee hours of the weekend, when the coffeehouse is open around the clock, that hardly ever happens here; the community is too much at home to stay away for long.
Specialties: coffee, Did I mention scones?, freshly baked scones, Scones, tea
