Evolution of The Book Blues: a Short Story

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (also known as the East Coast), there was a husband and wife. The couple often migrated to the southeatern Michigan blue water region to visit wonderful friends (and mainly because the friends lived on the water). Upon each trip, the woman, a writer, would exclaim:

"This town is perfect for a quaint bookstore right there in that building!"

and she would point to the building on 102 Broadway Street in Marine City -- wonderful awnings and big windows that faced the water with freighters and boats so close that you were sure you were going to feel the spray of the water on your face as they passed.

One year, tired of D.C. traffic and a fast-paced life, the couple moved from the East Coast to St. Clair county on a whim -- loaded up their truck and moved to...well, you get the point.

On another whim, the woman called the owners of that same building she had looked at for years. Before her husband could blink, the woman had secured the building and bid on 2500 books in an auction -- all while he was gone on a business trip. (SURPRISE!)

But blink the husband did. The building was, well, as they say, scary. The husband and her friends questioned not only the woman's choices but also her sanity. Regardless, the woman saw potential in the place and knew with the right amount of TLC the place would be perfect for her dream of a bookstore. She didn't let anyone sway her opinion and what she knew could be a wonderful bookstore in this quirky little building with much character.

The woman and her husband began to put their time into the building -- creating an environment that they, as avid readers, would like to read, browse, and buy in.

What you see today is the result of our love for books and our desire to share quality, inexpensive, gently-used books in a warm atmosphere with great views. We're not talkin' just any moldy-smelling, run-of-the mill used bookstore. This is a unique experience, different from other, stereotypical used bookstores. We hope you'll come see for youself.
