One of the Nation's Best Bookstores
Kim Allen-Niesen
Co-Founder of www.bookstorepeople.com, a blog reviewing independent bookstores and encouraging people to buy from them
I've loved them since I first visited 18 years ago. They know books. The recommendations don't follow the pack, there are unusual finds worth reading. Every book recommended by them that I've read has stayed with me. I don't live in the area, but I check out what the book clubs are reading to find interesting books. I particularly like the Elliott Bay Booknotes and the Maiden Voyage First Editions Club. I have a full review of the store at www.bookstorepeople.com/2008/11/one-of-the-nations-best-the-elliott-bay-...

Some of the best literary events in Seattle
I lived in Seattle for a few years, and Elliott Bay consistently brought great authors to its charming basement. I arm-wrestled Jonathan Ames, and cut John Roderick's hair there!
