What can I say, over 18 miles of bookshelves, in business for 80 years, The Strand is definitely the place to go in NY if you're looking for used books. Thye have thousands of new titles as well, but you can find those anywhere. One caution, be sure to clear your calendar the day you first visit, it's quite easy to spend hours wandering the aisles there!

A Legendary Bookstore

This is a must-visit spot everytime I'm in NY. I always find something I didn't expect and which winds up fascinating me.

I was visiting NYC for an art workshop in college. The professor suggested if we were around union square to find The Strand and gave us vague directions. He didn't have alot of good advice but he knows NYC pretty well.
2 hours later I found a great used book on Toulouse Lautrec.
Their selection is amazing. There really is something for everyone.
