The Upgrade Cycle Works philosophy begins with you. "We first prefer to get a feel for your riding style, be it early entry, multi-sport training, road sport, competitive, off road sport, bike paths, commuting, or just around the neighborhood." It is more important that you are enjoying the bike a year from now rather than getting you out the door with a "one hour" assembly from now.
Upgrade Cycle displays over 100 different models from juvenile, comfort, suspension, time trial, road sport, racing, exotic cruisers, to fixed gear or single speed road. Each bike has been carefully selected from Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Japan or the US.
After selecting the right style of bicycle, you will be personally advised to optimal fit for a test ride. Once confident in your selection, you will be professionally fit by our computerized system. Upgrade Cycle uses the same fitting system as the Olympic Training Center in Colorado, most of the major US frame builders and used by professionals throughout the world. Upgrade Cycle is the only shop in Chicago that can provide this service on every road bicycle we furnish.
Once you own an Upgrade Cycle bike, you will further enjoy the comprehensive six-month service policy plus three year extended warrantees against frame and components failures. To support our commitment to service, Upgrade Cycle Works has invested in one of the largest parts and accessory inventories in Chicagoland. So...
You + right bike + precise fitting + extensive service = F U N!
President John F. Kennedy once said, "Nothing can lift the spirits like a bicycle ride." This is the road Upgrade Cycle will put you on. After walking into the shop and spending a few minutes with of our dedicated staff, you will have to agree that this is a place not just to buy or quickly repair a bike. But a place you can come to time and again to share that big grin you get every time you ride.
Specialties: bike paths, commuting, competitive, early entry, just around the neighborhood, multi-sport training, off road sport, road sport

Professional, helpful, great overall experience!
I bought my first non-garage sale bike here (a huge investment for me) and the experience was awesome!
A friendly bike mechanic walked me through the possabilities within my budget and then spent nearly half a day fitting me to a number of different bikes. I never felt rushed, and actually learned a lot about the way bicycles work and how to keep mine up.
I ended up with a 2008 Raleigh One-Way, and I am one happy rider! It fits perfectly, rides beautifully, and looks fantastic if I do say so myself.
I just love indie stores--the personal attention can't be beat!
