Which File Type should I choose?

EPS FILES (.eps) are good for experienced designers without Adobe Illustrator, and are the format of choice for some printers.

ACROBAT FILES (.pdf) can be viewed and printed by anyone, provided you have a copy of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Like Illustrator documents, these files are lossless and scalable, which means you can resize them without pixilation. You can't edit them, however, without a paid copy of Acrobat Professional. Probably the best format for DIY printing, and also preferred by many printers.

TIFF FILES (.tif) are uncompressed graphics files. Unlike Acrobat or Illustrator documents, TIFF files are rasterized, which means they will pixilate if enlarged beyond their original size. TIFFs are easy to edit, and are standard for many printers. Because they are uncompressed, they are higher quality than JPEG files, but their file size is liable to be much, much larger. Probably the best choice for print if you don't have Illustrator and want to make some edits.

JPEG FILES (.jpg) are compressed, rasterized graphics files. Most images you see on the Internet are JPEGs. They're (comparatively) small in size and easy to edit. These are probably best for quick editing/sharing, for compatibility, and for web use.

PNG FILES (.png) are compressed, rasterized graphics files like JPEGs, but unlike the standard JPEG or TIFF formats, they allow for transparencies. This is important for overlays, which is why our T-shirt graphics, for instance, appear in PNG format. Any program that supports JPEGs should be able to handle PNG files too.

Some tips for working with these files:

1) Fonts have been converted to outlines in EPS files, and rasterized in TIFF/JPEG files. If you plan to add your own text, or edit the PDF files, you may need additional fonts.

2) TIFF and JPEG files can be easily edited to add your store's logo, local business alliance logos, etc. If you don't have a copy of Adobe Photoshop, you can always try The GIMP, a free, cross-platform (Mac, Windows, Linux and more!), open-source graphics editor.
