Independent bookstores keep your dollars working locally and provide an anchor amid our ever-corporatizing downtowns. Independent publishers bring original, contrarian or experimental voices to readers hungry for stories and reporting that they haven't heard before. Celebrate both by buying great books from indie publishers at your local indie bookstore.

The following are some of my favorites. Make a list of your own and pass it on. Let's support the bookstores that keep our schools and firehouses funded and the publishers who keep our literary ecosystem renewed.
