Janet R. Stafford is a pretty ordinary person, despite the fact that she is grossly over-educated. Aside from a B.A. in Asian Studies from Seton Hall University (South Orange, NJ), she also managed to acquire a Master of Divinity degree and a Ph.D. in North American Religion and Culture from Drew University (Madison, NJ). A 20-year career as a religious educator in five United Methodist churches and a 16-semester stint as an adjunct professor in interdisciplinary studies and history set her up for a life of near-poverty. She probably would have done better had she moved out of New Jersey and found a cheaper state in which to live. But Janet is a Jersey girl, so there you are. Luckily her interest in religion, history and writing combined to give birth to the Saint Maggie series. These days she is still living in near-poverty and still in New Jersey, but is immensely happy. She has an amazing significant other named Dan who brought with him a daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. Thus Janet pulled off the impossible: having grandchildren without actually having had the children first. She also has a sister, Diane, whose partner Sarah is like an extra sister. Janet's Maggie-esque family is rounded out by an enthusiastic Miniature Australian Shepherd called Tippy, and Dan's two very sweet black cats, Bear (the fuzzy one) and the aptly named Blackie Carbon (the small one). Janet considers herself to be very lucky and blessed.
