About the Author
Allene married at fourteen and had four children by age twenty. In her mid twenties, Allene, with her children in tow, returned to California to start life over again. Without an education or a job, she began the search for work to support her children. After several months, she found work. When the company offered to send her to management training, she took it, but not without serious doubts about herself. After that, she went back to nightschool and got her high school diploma. Later, she went to college and earned her BA. Retiring from Alameda County, Allene was available to care for two of her grandchildren. When she learned about her parents siblings, the search was on to find them. Allene is proud to have the story end as it did with resolution. She hopes that others will learn from her story.
