Description

About the Author

Gaston Louis Alfred Leroux was born on May 6, 1868 in Paris, France. Young Gaston attended school in Normandy and studied law in Paris. He was a millionaire due to an inheritance, but spent all of the money until he was bankrupt. In 1890, he took a job working as a court reporter and a theater critic. In 1905, he covered the Russian Revolution. In 1909, after leaving journalism, he began writing mystery novels, such as "The Mystery of the Yellow Room." It was in 1911, that he wrote his most famous work, "The Phantom of the Opera." Leroux died on April 15, 1927, at the age of 58, in Nice, France.
