Description

Modern Furniture presents a retrospective of the most important developments and highlights in furniture design of the past 150 years, beginning with the latest trends. The spotlight focuses on several individual gems of design, from the most contemporary Heaven series of the Italian manufacturer Emu, back to the famous cantilever chair, but also on creations such as laminate and chipboard that we no longer regard as design innovations but have nevertheless greatly influenced the home decor of our times. Concise texts accompanying the individually featured designs, as well as excurses on selected themes and styles written by experts, round off this benchmark illustrated book.

About the Author

Fremdkorper, a design studio in Potsdam, Germany, was founded by Andrea Mehlhose and Martin Wellner in 1996. After showcasing designs at several European furniture and accessory design fairs promoting young and emerging designers, they were invited to participate in international exhibits in Belgium, France, Italy, the U.S., Germany, and Japan. In addition to commissioned projects in corporate, product, and graphic design, they work on their own designs, which aim to creatively break with traditional expectations. In keeping with this intention, Fremdkorper presents an overview of 150 years of furniture history, in which well-known design icons can be found alongside commonplace and avant-garde pieces. ."
