Malaprop's Still going Strong

Malaprop's is a wonderful bookstore in the heart of Asheville. A store that has proven that despite a tough economy, the relationship with the reader matters. Malaprop's knows what readers want, and they care about their customers. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, warm and fun. Malaprop's is THE place to be in Asheville.

great looking store, author series

As an indie event planner, I was seriously impressed by Malaprop's lineup of really legit authors coming through.

Located right downtown, the store is an excellent destination stop for a booksigning event as something cool to do some night-- a date, a girl's night, a night on the town along being intellectual with a cup of coffee and a book in hand.

Malaprop's fits the bill, with a selection bigger than you'd think they could fit inside. I recommend it to all first-time Asheville visitors, for certain!

2 hour drive well worth it!

I was so excited to finally get to see Malaprop's the other day. It was every bit as wonderful as I had hoped...and then some. The store's layout and design are appealing, create a good flow for the shopper, and most of all, FUN! It is clear that they have great buyers who bring in a wide variety of books and non-book merchandise. And when I asked Alsace to find me a novel that was really, really great, she didn't miss a beat and immediately put into my hands one of her favorite reads from last year. I am so excited to have this store two hours away from me...that drive is well worth it. :)

review

Over the course of quite a number of years, I have witnessed this store evolve in and through some of most harrowing of times for persons who care about literature in its most expansive sense. Throughout these years, Malaprop's has been a model of creative ingenuity, tenacious devotion to the ideal of a "free press", and entrepreneurial savvy such as to make this store the heart of a most fascinating town well known for its own independent and alluring nature. It was for this reason that when a friend of mine came to Asheville as part of author tour promoting his book, One World Democracy, I dedicated the exclusive printing of one of his essays, Entering the Era of Deep Politics: Defining Existential Polity to the this store, as one singularly devoted "to fostering the voice of peace in a world at war".
