A full-service general bookstore, Maria's Bookshop carries an inventory of over 50,000 books on custom-made wooden bookshelves in 2200 square feet of retail space. Antique snowshoes, skies, and sleds as well as some beautiful work by local artists hang from our walls. We have a staff of fourteen dedicated booksellers, and a large and loyal clientele from the local community of about 45,000. Maria's Bookshop sponsors over 100 active book clubs, hosts dozens of special events a year, and helps support several local non-profit organizations. We are proud to be a long-standing community resource!

Maria’s Bookshop in the heart of historic downtown Durango is a warm and inviting reflection of the friendly community it serves. A toddler welcomed me into the cozy shop that is a focal point for families and friends to meet. Maria’s is a perfect first stop for a visitor to obtain maps, books on the hiking and mountain biking trails, ski areas and regional history. Helpful staff members are eager to share their knowledge of the area and the 40,000 books of fiction and non-fiction in house. Maria’s serves Durango, and the extended community of 45,000, by sponsoring author events, supporting over 100 active reading groups, giving to local non-profits and hosting events throughout the year. Maria’s is more than a bookstore it is a crucial part of a vibrant community.
