I've done so many bookstore events at so many Indies that I love, I really hate to single out any store, because so many have been such staunch champions of my books, and I'm always so very grateful!

But Storybook Cove, where I spoke and signed today, blew me away. It's a small children's bookstore, if you measure it by its recent square footage (700-something square feet). I'd been warned that you had to scruntch your shoulders to turn around between shelves.

Today was their first author event after a frantic week of moving to a new space in their mall, at a whopping 3,000-something square feet. You'd think they might be a bit off their game before completing their move, but I'd argue. (Or else I'd tremble at what "on their game" meant!)

This store has book game. It has customer service game. And, oh my, does it have author game!

I'm a Dartmouth graduate, and ingrained in my mind is Daniel Webster's quote during his defense of the college in the classic Dartmouth College case. He said, "It's a small college, but there are those who love it." That quote hangs above the student's meal hall.

In today's marketing hype that's not a screaming announcement of endorsement. But for those who want the straight facts without the screaming and hype, and who'll trust the source, I would say of Storybook Cove: "It's a small children's bookstore, but there are those who love it!" And I'm certainly one - thank you, Storybook Cove!
