Country Bookshelf
Country Bookshelf is celebrating Independent Bookstore Day by launching a new event series: BookTalk.
Are you tired of doom scrolling on your phone? Do you see the same three books promoted on your social media over and over again? Are you interested in meeting other people in your community and strengthening relationships with your neighbors?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, this event is for you! Our goal with BookTalk is to give our community members an opportunity to gather thoughtfully over their shared love of literature. Our hope is that attendees will leave with fresh perspectives, new friends, and a book recommendation from someone they hadn't met before.
Elk River Books
Livingston’s Elk River Books is excited to celebrate the 12th annual Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 26, with in-store specials, refreshments and book signings by poet Tami Haaland and children’s author Megan Hollingsworth. The celebration lasts all day from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the book signings happening from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Tami Haaland’s new collection of poems, her fourth, is If I Had Said Beauty. It explores the possible narratives and distant origins of what lies behind a sense of self — including recent and ancient DNA, recessive and dominant traits, mitochondrial underpinnings, and an intricate microbiome. Luminous and spare, the poems seek to unravel and speculate, document and lament what happens in a life and what might have been.
Haaland is a former Montana poet laureate and a recipient of an Artist Innovation Award from Montana Arts Council as well as a Montana Governor’s Humanities Award.
Megan Hollingsworth is the author of Frog Song, an educational book for readers ages 9 and up that leads with an interspecies love poem inspired by “Toughie,” the last known living Rabbs’ fringe-limbed treefrog. With Toughie’s true story, resources for further learning, conservation homework suggestions and a section on big picture continuation, Frog Song supports imagination put to practical action for everyone’s benefit.
Hollingsworth is currently an East West Psychology doctoral student at California Institute of Integral Studies. She is deeply influenced by her Quaker upbringing, Engaged Buddhism, and faith in essential goodness.
Independent Bookstore Day (Indie Bookstore Day) was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over 1,200 stores participating across the country.
Elk River Books is located at 122 S. 2nd St. As Montana’s only members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, they provide a finely curated selection of new, used and antiquarian books, plus maps, cards, ephemera and book-related gifts. For more information, send an email to info@elkriverbooks.com or call (406) 333-2330.

Woolly Bear Books & Gifts first opened in October 2024. Now, less than half a year later, we are set to open in a NEW space on April 26…Indie Bookstore Day! The new storefront is about three times the size of our current shop and allows for more in-store programming opportunities, including author talks and kids’ storytimes.
Our business’ success is definitely a testament to this committed, tight-knit community and its dedication to the arts. We don't have any special programming planned for opening weekend aside from a ribbon cutting ceremony on the 26th.
We are also taking part in the (FIRST ANNUAL!) Great Pittsburgh Book Crawl between May 10–18. Not quite in time for Indie Bookstore Day but still worth noting! So far we have nearly 20 participating indies across the Pittsburgh area.
